The Chamilia and Trollbead lines of Breitling Navitimer Quartz BT-195 were among the best-selling brands, Motiwala said, and engagement rings are always big sellers around the holidays.

"Diamond studs and diamond jewelry are our bread and butter," he said, explaining they sell year-round.

Motiwala said he expected business to continue improving in 2011.

"I'm optimistic about the coming year," he said. "I think it will be even better than the last one."

As national retailers Breitling Navitimer Quartz Chrono BT-177 disappointing sales numbers for December, Baltimore area retailers said Thursday they saw an increase in December sales after a dismal 2009, but for some categories, the sales weren't as high as expected.

The results raised some worries that the holiday season was less stellar than expected, but retailers still saw more foot traffic and higher sales than last year and since the recession began.

"Anecdotally, sales were much Breitling Navitimer Quartz Chrono BT-178 than last year, but it's been spotty," said Maryland Retailers Association President Pat Donoho.

Donoho said that while apparel and electronics did fairly well in December, categories like furniture and jewelry didn't see high sales. Maryland's December retail numbers won't be released until February.

Michael Butler, manager of Breitling Navitimer Quartz Chrono BT-179 in Harbor East, said his furniture store saw some foot traffic and sales in December, but it was not a high-selling month compared to the rest of the year. Butler did not have final sales numbers for December, but said the store had a 50 percent increase in the rest of 2010 sales over the first 11 months of 2009.
